Power prices for the consumer and for businesses have all increased dramatically this year, but there is no sign of the power companies ensuring that the price of electricity and gas is kept to a reasonable level, and the profits all go overseas to foreign investors

Power firms set to pay a record $1.4 billion to shareholders
It’s been a tough 12 months for electricity users, but payouts to shareholders in the big four power companies aren’t expected to miss a beat. Have your say in the comments.

It is a happy coincidence that I am reading Eve McDonald on Carthage and @joycedidonato.bsky.social is releasing a new recording of Dido and Aeneas

My profile says first that I am an avid reader. I am still thinking about a fantastic new book by @adapalmer.bsky.social inventing the renaissance. I love reading books which take a fresh look so now reading Eve McDonald on Carthage.

I still sometimes a look at Twitter from time to time. The amount of racist , sexist and fascist comments seem to be greatly increasing. That’s sad because once it was a good source of up-to-date news and while there were always some difficult tweets, you didn’t need to get counselling after reading

#2 it used to be a policy to scatter state houses across all parts of the community

I wonder if some of the reason why Kāinga Ora are selling state houses in what they describe as expensive suburbs, because they do not want the people in those suburbs to complain about the people living next to them in the state provided housing. Diversity seems to be a bad word these days, but #1

The eggs I bought today in Nuku’alofa were $29 pa’anga for a tray of 30. That’s $US 12. How the prices in the US? Has the economic genius fulfilled that promise?
