Edmund Burke’s campaign against Warren Hastings, resulting in Hastings’ impeachment and 7 year long trial generated some of the most famous caricatures of the late 18th century.

Gillray’s Opposition Coaches has to be one of my favourite caricatures of the period. It is a who’s who of politics in 1788.

The most important impeachment in British history? The trial of Warren Hastings (the 1st governor-general of Bengal) has certainly left a legacy, not least in the scores of caricatures it generated.
