I live with a secret...a curse. I'm trying to protect my loved ones, including my sister Amy, from the animal inside me.

I'm never ready for anything that happens in the moonlight... 🌕

He attempts to sound chipper but quickly retreats off into the night towards his cottage. A fog is spreading through the town and Chris is unaware that he's not even the most dangerous thing concealed in it.

He really shouldn't drink so much. Chris takes a deep breath of the cool air. "I'm used to the walk. You go ahead and go to the inn -- and don't make too much noise and wake Mr. Wells up. He gets cranky. I'll see you in the morning!"

Chris jumps at the hand on his shoulder. Get a grip, he tells himself. "Yeah, yeah, I'll be fine for a couple more weeks." He tears his eyes away from the moon and tries to make his comment seem normal in some way. "I mean, ya know, as long as we've got a job," he stammers, lamely.

The brothers used to look at the stars with wonder as children. Now the crescent moon in the sky is nothing but a ticking clock, counting down to a time of horror. When the moon is full Chris might hurt anyone...even the newfound, loyal friend beside him.

He's come out from the warm noise of the bar to the cold stillness of the mostly empty streets. Back to the reality of his life. Chris was the older twin by 2 minutes. Two minutes that had changed the course of his life. Both their lives as it turned out. And many other unfortunate souls.

The last word dies on his lips as he glances up at the sky. A trick of the light through the clouds makes the moon seem almost full. It's only a moment before he remembers that he still has a couple of weeks, but Chris suddenly falls silent, staring upward with a look of terror on his face.

The Maine night air is cold even during the summer and the storm seems to be bringing in the coldest air from the North. But Chris hardly notices, still feeling warm from the booze...and just maybe from the kind words. "Nothing like a little Collinsport rain! The walk'll do us good--"

"We'd better both be able to stand. We've got work tomorrow, my friend," Chris says with a chuckle. He stands up and puts some money on the counter for Bob. He's only a bit unsteady, or so he tells himself.

He doubts Thomas could have had much of a home life. Collinsport seems to draw in all the lost and lonely. "Hey, listen. Next time we'll talk all about your sob stories, okay?" He hears the sounds of a guitar coming from the jukebox and realizes it's probably getting late.

It's a relief, though. He's always played the older brother in his life. Looking after Tom, Amy, even cousin Joe. It felt nice to be on the receiving end. "Thanks," he says earnestly, if awkwardly. "You're a real pal. If there's ever anything I can do for you, just let me know."

Chris doesn't know anything about Thom's checkered past, but he's still surprised by the rush of support. Then again, the guy had usually been kinda nice to him, even before offering him the job helping with the Collinwood renovation. Chris really isn't sure why.

"I don't want to risk hurting anyone else. I just want to be there sometimes. For the baby, you know?" Chris runs a hand through his hair and looks almost sheepishly at Thom. "I guess I'm making that drifter life of yours sound really good right about now."

Sometimes the fact that they shared a name bothers Chris. Collinsport was a town of odd coincidences. With a fresh glass in hand, Chris becomes thoughtful again. "Look, you probably think I'm a moron, but I do know the score. Carolyn's with Loomis and she should be with him."

Maybe it was too much to drink or just immaturity left over from his teenage years, which weren't too far behind him. "Still, it felt good to belt him one. Next round's on me!" Remembering how Thom had covered for him, Chris shoves him playfully like he would've Joe—or Tom, his brother Tom.

That was another part of his life that must remain a shameful secret. Thomas lets him off the hook with a new topic and Chris gratefully takes the out. "That guy... I shouldn't have gotten worked up. I'm sorry you got dragged into it." But something that's almost a smile appears on his face.

"We were two peas in a pod when we were kids." His voice sounds hollow. "We were twins you know. Always together." How would things be now if Chris hadn't returned to Collinsport last year? He suddenly downs his drink in one gulp. The empty glass makes a crisp sound as it smacks the bartop.

Since the first time Joe had introduced them, Chris realized the guy didn't like to talk about himself. Chris can understand that. He's so wrapped up remembering being irritated at Bruno in the shop it take him a moment to realize that Thom was asking about his brother.

Living in the Collins cottage, being paid to fix up the West Wing, Amy living in Collinwood — his whole life right now is dependent upon Collins goodwill. Chris had been a drifter once, too, and he almost misses those days. Chris starts to ask Thomas about where he came from, but checks himself.

Putting on a fake half-smile, he shakes his head. Chris winces inside. The baby still doesn't feel like anything to celebrate. Just another mess he's gotten himself and other people involved in. He certainly isn't looking forward to Liz learning he's the father.
