Grizzlies update on Brandon Clarke.
Last week, the Grizzlies crashed out, but didn’t crack up. As the season returns to normal (maybe?), some early returns on Tuomas Iisalo and a few things to watch going forward.

Herrington: As Grizzlies drama passes, spotlight shifts to coach Tuomas Iisalo
After a few days of crashing out, the back-to-normal Grizzlies hit the road, with plenty to evaluate, on the sidelines and on the floor.

We need John Konchar and Brooks Barnhizer on the floor at the same time so they can re-enact the Spider-Man meme.

Best the Grizzlies have played all season. They just needed me to not be there. (They're 0-3 on nights where I've sat courtside to write the game story.)

I'm just going to make "Cedric Coward is so good, man" a scheduled post for every game night. Save myself the typing.

Grizzlies lead by as many as 35. It's 102-80 at the end of the third, so not quite *over* over. Let's see if a team that needed a big win can finish strong.

Cedric Coward is so good, man. Just rock solid in about every way for a rookie.

Grizzlies 74, Mavs 51, and since this is an NBA Cup game, no margin can be too big. 12 points and already 10 assists for Morant. JJJ, Aldama, KCP and Coward also in double-digits scoring. Grizzlie shooting 10-21 from 3, breaking what's pretty much been a season-long first-half dry spell.

Grizzlies playing well overall, but still struggling to get JJJ involved in the offense. He's got one attempt, a 3 (more of those would be fine). They've tried to go to him in the post a few times, with quick doubles coming. He's getting lost in the offense's flow otherwise.

Fantastic first stint for Morant: 8 points (4-5 shooting) and 5 assists. Grizzlies lead 23-11.

Everyone watching the Grizzlies has had to be a body-language interpreter lately, but I will say Morant's demeanor/on-court communication looks much better to start this game. More like the opening week than amid the late unpleasantess.

Rockets 94, Grizzlies 80 through 3. Grizz had cut it to 4, briefly. Only chink Rockets' offense this season has been turnovers, but Grizzlies have lost the turnover battle 15-11. Feels like if that were flipped, this would really be a game. Grizzlies' lone advantage has been in transition.

Rockets 60, Grizzlies 51 at the half. JJJ with 1 FGA. 15 of Grizzlies’ 51 have come on the break. Definitely better playing fast against bigger Rockets. Before tonight, Grizz have shot 27% from 3 in first halves, 39% in second halves. 33% in this one. Still a game, if barely.

Another half where the Grizzlies are not getting Jaren Jackson involved. One field-goal attempt, midway through the second quarter. They've got to get this figured out. Santi Aldama and Cam Spencer have combined for 11.

Charles Bassey with back-to-back lob dunks in the last game on his current 10-day. But if Zach Edey is going to be back within the next two weeks, it's hard to see how they keep Bassey beyond this game.

Rockets up 34-22 through one. Grizzlies shooting 5-18 from the floor. Cold early 3-point shooting, in particular, has been a consistent issue and is again. Jaren Jackson Jr. with 0 FGA in only six minutes, despite 0 fouls. We'll see if he gets heavy run in the second.

First Todd Snider, then Tony Allen. A rough week for Memphis-connected culture heroes. Wishing the absolute best for both.

Up this week at No. 23 in my season-long “Grizzlies 25” series is perhaps the most anonymous good player in franchise history, but who made the mostly unlikely game-winner.

Courtney Lee may have been the most anonymous good player in Memphis Grizzlies history. But one Lee moment, at least, was unforgettable.

The demonstrative, communicative Morant fans witnessed in the season’s opening three-game homestand seemed like a distant memory on Monday.

It’s mostly speculation that the Grizzlies’ quick substitution pattern is something that’s frustrated Morant. But Iisalo had an interesting broad response to the notion that NBA players might bristle at it, without confirming its relevance here.

Tuomas Iisalo spoke before tonight’s game.
“We had a discussion and we’re all looking to move forward and beat the Pistons tonight” is the new “Go ask the coaching staff," the refrain of the night.
