Scientist. Ordained minister. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️.
Everyone is welcome. Especially 🐕.
Your initial comment didn’t say that it was the American Salvation Army you were describing. I added a comment so that other readers who aren’t in the USA would have a more complete picture.

Did my comment hurt any one?

No, but some people who read what you post do :).

counterpoint - our dog sheds all the time, and our robot vacuum cleaner is a total lifesaver, collecting a full load of hair every night.

But it's not a Roomba, so....

A brief reminder that while this is absolutely true of the Salvation Army in the USA, it is not true globally.

In Australia the Salvation Army have been awarded rainbow tick accreditation, having radically changed their approach to full LGBTIQA+ inclusion.

Really?

The AI biochemists trained on public protein folding data, solving one of the hardest problems in the field, opening up a huge range of medical research possibilities, is unethical?

And the little self-learning game AI that I wrote, that uses no external data? That is unethical?

Why?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_l..., quite common in older Churches . There's a tradition associating an animal with each of the four gospels in which the eagle stands for the gospel of John (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetramo...)

on (b) - yes, they do. But its much easier for third party tools to block (or, more fun, poison) cookie tracking.

I'd settle (for all ages) for:

- clear distinction between subscribed and suggested content
- default view to be subscribed content
- ban on any form of infinite scroll for suggested content

the point of the second and third being to require a conscious choice to see more suggested stuff

Possibly relevant:

- Accessing without account greatly limits platform's ability to profile: so you can find things, but don't get algorithm-determined content.

- Some platforms (e.g. reddit), require an account to access materials marked as adult.

- No account makes grooming much harder.

One of the few things I remember from my ministry training was what was said at the start of a pastoral care course:

"The only thing you really need to learn in this course is how to shut the f*** up".

You might, you might not. Things change, and none of us know what strange things the future holds.

All you can do now is what you're doing - making it through each day in order to see what the next one has in store.

(I'm a recovered alcoholic - I know the meaning of making it through each day...)

I hope you are suitably worried about what you might discover he meant...

So I might be a dog person not a cat person, but I'm very much a rescue pet person.

All she remembers at the end is five good happy years.

Thank you for using the accurate "Quite a few" rather than making a universal claim :).

Personally, I'm very relaxed with humanism and ethical systems derived from it.

I don't understand the use of the word 'but' in this post.

Reverential, dramatic, *and whimsical*. The perfect Dr Who episode.

That's such a difficult stage in life - we went through it with my in-laws a couple of years ago.

Give yourself a free pass if you have to let other responsibilities go for a bit. If you can...
