No idea why people/organisations settle these claims. Most have little or no valid legal basis and stand very little chance of success at trial. As most who've clashed swords in business with him know, he shouts, rants and raves to get his way. If you ignore him, eventually he gives up. No Plan B.

Not because he actually stands any chance of winning if the Beeb doesn't settle and it ends up going to trial.

BBC: "While President Trump has not disclosed any legal cause of action against us, we wish to apologise unreservedly to him, lick his boots, cancel shows that he doesn't like and which we never had any intention of broadcasting, and give him all our licence-fee payers' money by way of settlement"

Sounds like a bit of a change from my RC's school RE O Level syllabus, which was limited to the four Gospels. My sister's convent school was more enlightened, rebelling against their exam board's narrow O Level syllabus by making their pupils do the comparative religions-focused CSE RE exam instead.

So sorry to hear that. Heartbreaking.

Particularly sad that the Archers phase of my life, which went on for close to 40 years, seems to have come to a close - particularly given that some years ago I performed at Lower Loxley Hall's 'Deck the Halls' Christmas festivities, as a member of Darrington Choral Society.

Each to her/his own, I guess.

Complete waste of a character. They really missed a trick. They could have had him falling off the roof but surviving with a serious disability. Nigel struggling to, but, with support from loved ones, eventually succeeding in coming to terms with his disability would've added an extra dimension.

It's been going downhill since they wrote out Nelson Gabriel and then, a few years later, gratuitously killed off its then best character by a country mile, Nigel Pargetter.

The Amazon is vital to the future of life (including human life) on the planet as a whole. Preserving it intact (and in so far as possible re-foresting those parts of it that have been deforested) is the responsibility of, and in the best interests of, the whole world, not just those countries.

Sadly, I think I'm so over The Archers as a whole. Having been an avid weekly listener to the omnibus, I became a monthly listener, then 3 monthly, then bi-annually and now it's been at least a year since I last listened. When people post about it now, I hardly recognise any character names.

135 billion pounds per US citizen? I didn't realise that they were all that heavy!

It isn't just 'Brazil's forest'. It spans Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and Guiane. It's of global importance as it contains 10% of world's known species, 20% of its fresh water and between 150 and 250 billion tons of carbon, which stabilises global climate.

Some Americans' closest neighbours live further from them than the distance between Cambridgeshire and London.

Back in late '90s, I moved to a flat which came with a garage. Having first found that, owing to its narrowness and the proximity of the row of garages opposite, manoeuvring to get my Rover 216 into it was tricky,
I then found that, having finally managed it, I couldn't open either front door.

Plus at our place in France, we'd need to Incur further expenditure to widen our gateway, if we had either the inclination or the money to buy one of these beasts, to be able to get it into the car port. As it is, I can barely get our relatively slimline Skoda in without scraping the wing-mirrors.

Or, in our case, get up, then take your bed to the tip - OK, it was actually our old mattress, not our current bed!
