Tennessee has a state lottery.
Alabama does not.
So the first mile of Hwy 431 in Fayetteville, when you first enter TN, is filled with lottery stores.

They dub it the “Magic Mile.” With the Powerball jackpot so high, it’s packed today!

We’ll take you there tonight on @nc5official.bsky.social

She might have stayed in Hawaii, except for meeting a handsome sailor from Waverly, TN. Their own families weren't too keen about an interracial marriage, but we're told they came around once there were some grandchildren for them to enjoy.

I want you to meet Betty Hooper.

The longtime Gallatin resident turns 100 years old on Saturday!

She was born in Hawaii, survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the civilian group "Women Air Raid Defense" that monitored air traffic radars during World War II. /1

There’s quite the dilemma developing on the Duck River. One group of citizens wants to dam the stream to form a lake. Another group wants to preserve the scenic river.

This issue has a complicated history and an uncertain future.

Be sure to tune in Wednesday at 6!

Thankfully, there are several dams upstream of Nashville, including Percy Priest Dam, that have plenty of room for water storage. It's why Percy Priest Dam is currently not releasing any water, and that won't change until the Cumberland recedes to normal levels.
April 4, 2025 at 8:51 PM
At Cheatham Dam, the gates are lifted and all water is passing through the dam. That's because Cheatham Lake, which includes Downtown Nashville, has virtually no water storage area. As a result, the Cumberland in Clarksville is already in minor flood stage and is expected to rise
April 4, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Old Hickory Dam (upstream of Nashville) is releasing a torrent of water. Why? They have to. Old Hickory Lake was not built with much room for water/flooding storage, so they have to release water downstream so homes along the lake (above the dam) don't flood.

We've gotten a lot of rain.
We're getting more.

So here's a 🧵on how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
is handling Cumberland River levels in Middle Tennessee in the coming days.

We'll start at Old Hickory Dam, where I'm standing in front of in this shot.

Upon closer inspection, the axle of a truck was being held together by a single ratchet strap!

Should students have access to their phones at school?

Rep. Rebecca Alexander's bill would require districts to develop a policy to ban phones during instruction, except for certain circumstances.

But some parents like having direct access, especially in emergencies.
