hi Heather. The bill does not authorize the sale of 258M acres over 5 years….it mandates the sale of ~3M acres over 5 years…the 258M figure (which keeps changing) is lands that are eligible for potential inclusion

yes, this sets a dangerous precedent…but right now, the cap is 3M acres

Trump's "key actions on the environment" in here include...
- "ending the forced use of paper straws" (what)
- "protecting public lands" (by opening more to drilling/mining)
- "protecting wildlife" (by pausing wind energy projects)

incredible stuff

the Trump WH just moved to rescind the Biden-era public lands rule which aimed to better balance conservation and extractive development across BLM-managed lands

at an all-hands last week, Interior Sec Doug Burgum said management & protection "must be held in balance"...

this might explain Doug Burgum's obsession w/ Colossal & its "de-extinct dire wolves"

in 2023, the North Dakota Dept of Commerce awarded Colossal $3 million to "support their expansion in North Dakota"

Burgum was ND governor at the time

in 2023, Doug Burgum moderated a panel on carbon capture at Harold Hamm's energy summit in OK

records show that prior to the event, Burgum's staff requested and received a detailed list of questions to ask the panelists from Hamm's team

wild that Utah argues its effort to take control of federal lands is rooted in a desire to "keep public lands in public hands"

like it or not, fed public lands are held in trust for ALL Americans

when Utah says "public," it means only Utahns
