It seemed pretty miraculous to me that they could make any use of the land but yes, I'm sure the earth contains much hidden pollution. I've only dipped randomly into Clout so far.

Very visible - this was at Danzig Alley Cemetery near Mametz. By chance, my picture was taken OTD in 2016.

Thanks to @annadillon.bsky.social for recommending Hugh Clout's book, and to AbeBooks for a second-hand copy which looks new (always worth looking there if the new price is beyond reasonable reach) 3/3

Towns, farms, fields and woods destroyed. Drainage systems wrecked. Field boundaries gone. Deep mines, trenches, blockhouses, wrecked armaments and vehicles, explosives everywhere. Bodies to be recovered and identified if possible. But 90% of the pre-war arable land was back in use by 1928. 2/3

I have a 1TB Samsung T7 Shield USB mainly for the (apparent) ruggedness (which comes at a price). It is semi-permanently attached to my laptop and carried about, so liable to get bashed a bit. 1TB, 2TB and 4TB

They are all over Oxford I think, but not, so far, near us. Until now.

He is better than he was. I quite like his company as long as I can put my feet down. Good luck with the cats.
