At the Church of the Holy Redeemer
A pew had just snapped my right femur
The pain was severe
Yet I shed not a tear
Though I got a wet nose like a lemur

They’re not playing it live, which ordinarily would be a shame — but without Ian Stewart on piano, it wouldn’t sound nearly as great, would it? This one, Little Queenie, Let It Rock..along with everything else, the Stones played Chuck Berry songs better than anyone else did.

I was mortified, in that pre-internet age, to have to say that I did not know the lyrics. And 40 years later, I can’t remember the title of the song, either. So that’s why it sounds like a dream — the dream when you haven’t gone to class and have an exam & are totally doomed.

I’d be happy to take the credit, but in fairness this sounds more like a John Norris mitzvah; I was still just the MTV movie guy (who’d seen the Faces in 1973 at Nassau Coliseum.) Here’s John & I around 2000, with our producer Heather Parry.

In her memoir, Carly Simon wrote that during a transatlantic voyage, she and her sister Lucy were approached for a menage-a-trois by Sean Connery, who starred in The Hunt for Red October with Alec Baldwin, hired by NBC for a (never-produced) version of A Few Good Men, whose film starred Kevin Bacon.

Cerf was related by marriage to Ginger Rogers & Rita Hayworth. Ronstadt’s brother arrested the man who killed Rebecca Schaeffer. Schaeffer’s murder inspired the film Moonlight Mile, its title taken from the Rolling Stones song, co-written by Mick Jagger, who sang with Carly Simon on You’re So Vain.

I was in a London record store that summer of ‘79 looking strictly for punk/UK New Wave treasures when I heard Don’t Bring Me Down for the 1st time. WHO IS THIS I asked the clerk; given his accent and my rock&roll hearing, I was still sorting out his answer 10 minutes later. Such a great track.
