I'm pretty sure I was performing "I Love A Rainy Night" (because it had started raining, as you can see from the window). I sometimes spontaneously play a song that is inspired by whatever is going on around me at the moment. I don't think anyone ever notices. 😂

It takes some getting used to playing a venue with a mirror behind the stage. I think in this photo I might be checking to see who was creeping up behind me! 😂

I miss playing at Devil's Logic in Charlotte since it went out of business. Its proximity to Central Piedmont Community College and Uptown Charlotte meant lots of foot traffic while I played. I loved interacting with the people walking by!

I'll never forget this night - when Tina from The Hideaway joined me on stage for her least favorite song in the world ("Wagon Wheel"). She was a good sport when she saw I brought her a special gift. 😂

I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to play music in coffee shops, bars, breweries, restaurants, and private events. Inviting a musician to play is a risk for any venue. To those of you who have placed your confidence and trust in me - thank you.

I’ve been performing live off and on for almost 40 years; I’m pretty sure this is the first time I ever played a Grateful Dead song live. 17 year old me wouldn’t believe it 😂

I used to have a rule that I never played gigs in shorts, but once I started playing outdoors regularly in the Carolina/Virginia summers, that rule went out the window! Plus this way the audience can see my cool socks! #coolsocks

I try to smile and keep my head up when I perform. I think it helps me engage with the audience. This is me failing at doing that.

I always try to balance my set between crowd favorites and some of my personal favorites too. Always feel free to come up and request a song. If I know it even a little bit, I'll probably give it a try! #songrequests

I usually gather and tape down all my cords and cables so as not to fall on my face mid-set (and, more importantly, possibly damage my equipment!) I'm proud of my tidy tape job here, except - what's with that one black cord doing its own thing?? #safetyfirst

When I play, I try to constantly read the room. I can adjust my set list for nearly any situation. If I see a table in the back perk up and sing along whenever I play a country song, I'll play more country! Same goes for 80s, folk, modern, etc.
