After tearing my hamstring, I haven't been able to really do much. Luckily my girlfriend was in town and she wheeled me around the Albuquerque Biopark zoo with my camera.

A juvenile copperhead lying in wait. These snakes are quite common in the south. When young, they have a vibrant yellow/green tail to attract prey. Fearsome to many, these snakes prefer to stay out of the way of humans.

One of the rarest animals on earth - the socorro isopod. This animal was once extinct in the wild but conservation efforts have brought them back to their home - a small 4ftx2ft thermal spring in New Mexico.

Two endangered species from San Marcos, Texas: The San Marcos Salamander and the Fountain Darter. Endemic to only a few springs spouting from the Edwards Aquifer, these two species, as well as much of Austin and San Antonio, require a clean water table to survive

Atlas Comet and the Milky Way seen at City of Rocks State Park, New Mexico. Wish I could have gotten more photos but the comet was only visible for a few minutes before the moon rose and washed it away.

In the 1950's American Alligator populations plummeted due to overhunting. Today these animals number around 5 million and play a vital role in keeping waterways healthy throughout the year. This guy lives at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

Something rare is in this photo. Not the fish in the background, but the flowing plants - Texas Wild Rice, found only in the San Marcos river. Protected by TSU, these plants are threatened by introduced nutria and plecos. #endangeredspecies #photography #wildlife #texas

Stopped by @calacademy.bsky.social when I went back home for Christmas. Really enjoyed this photo of one of the birds in the rainforest dome. If someone could tell me what species it is, that'd be great.
