Here’s the problem with this story: 67% of BC farms report less than $50,000 in annual revenue. And these are the farms operating at a net loss. Is the actual issue people using farm status to cover tax write-offs? It certainly distorts the stats.

Make no mistake: BC agriculture is in a very challenging spot right now. But this begs the question: are 67% of BC farms actually hobby operators using farm status for tax write-offs? And why is the threshold to access support payments (not to mention farm property tax status) and funding so low?
