Nuclear is needed as part of the mix supply. Even if is just to capture the countries base energy load, be that now and later with planned expansion as the transition from gas to electric occurs.

Renewables are needed, the initial incentive to get was needed, now not so much with renewables being cheaper (excluding nuclear).

It doesn’t just cover the infrastructure, the standing charge covers paying for the failed energy suppliers and the protection of there customers funds, covering the debts of those that don’t pay there bills.
