Violent crime rates peaked a decade or two later, as that generation reached adulthood.
The correlation is believed to be causative.

Speaking of nation building, let’s recognize that Canada’s highway system is actually very fragile. It has 2 single point-failure locations. If fire, flood or terrorist act closes the TCH at Nipigon or at Kenora, road travel between eastern and western Canada will cease.
