It’s my understanding (and my understanding is routinely incomplete, so please someone wiser check my work) that serum iron is far less reliable as an indicator - mostly reflects your dietary iron over the past day or two rather than indicating sufficiency or deficiency overall?

When grads with six figure debt can’t see 3 years of subspecialty training as a wise investment…

And the converse is true too - all the more reason for excellent training in acute/emergency care for pediatricians. The withering of EM experience for pediatrics trainees is a travesty.
