A fellow of infinite jest. Carer for friends & family, conversationalist, arguer, software dabbler, ex motorcyclist sadly. ☹️ Interested in Linux, home automation, tropical fish & electronics.
Best to start out with the one you are going to use. Swapping requires repairing all devices.

I would guess you have heavier double/triple glazed windows? Here in Australia commonly they are only single glazed and relatively light.

Glad it is back going, HA does tend to drop devices if they haven't communicated in a while. Maybe a wifi dead spot? Don't know this particular device but often there is a hidden entity RSSI which gives you an idea of signal strength.

Short answer: ZHA inbuilt simplicity, MQTT power & broader service support but more complexity in configuration.

Coming from a network background I would check if your wifi router has allocated an IP address to the bulb. Then try & ping that address.

Other Home Depot devices still working? HD has devices with a range of comms, wifi, zigbee zwave, what is your device?
August 24, 2025 at 6:54 AM
Ok, if that has been your experience then go with it. I have a lot of zigbee temperature/humidity sensors around the house plus some power switches & blind controllers. Been running for a couple of years and one hardware failure of a temp sensor. So my experience has been different to yours.

Releveling does adhere to the KISS principle.

🤔😀

That's sad, some engineering then design a better door switch, put some hysteresis into the door switch signal or go the full hog ESP32 and break into the control board.

Zigbee I have found needs a form foundation so if the sort of problems you are having is end devices doing off then try a few powered routers through the house. The second trick I have learnt is to put it on a channel not in the wifi band. I use 25 commonly. Requires repairing of devices.

You are probablyern from my era when processing power was limited & you sweated blood over every additional byte, every additional processor cycle. Modern machines have made us more sloppy in coding but with the benefit of run anywhere code. But I sympathise.
August 22, 2025 at 12:18 AM
Haha, an interesting use. Add HA driven restraints & you have an entire new HA sub genre.

Impressive difference David, any energy usage changes from maintaining tighter temperature control?
June 2, 2025 at 3:37 AM
Ok, I guess you have given HA login access to the switches not just SNMP monitoring.

Don't feel bad, I have been caught too. 8 am very careful to choose open ecosystem equipment now.
May 22, 2025 at 12:25 AM
Yes I agree, *nix behavior. I guess you have come from a windows background. Filename: Fred Fred & freD are three different files.

Hello Oscar, you are not deactivating the flux which can cause later intermittency issues. Leave the solder iron on a bit longer make sure it is up to temperature before you start. Also you can clean using isopropyl alcohol. It just takes practice. 👍

Linux a beaucoup évolué depuis que je l'utilise. La gestion des paquets est largement supérieure à celle des produits commerciaux.

Hi, have you installed the music assistant server? www.music-assistant.io

I think that is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Firewalling, VLANs, dedicated IoT WiFi can all mitigate risk. Sure it is not perfect but I would not give up the conveniences of HA for the illusion of safety.

Yes, "If Paulus arrives home after Sunset then switch on the living room lights." AI can deal with that simpler intention parsers not so much.

As you say writing documentation is an art & best not left to the coders. Coding comes with its own prejudices & biases. Orphan concepts as you describe are the sign of someone inexperienced in documentation. I am not critical of those that make the attempt.

I quite like Shelly, pretty robust & best of all purely local no cloud servers involved.
