Welney packed with waterbirds this afternoon including 401 Pintail, 313 Pochard. 22 Cranes flew SW at 1630. This morning, nearby fields had over 1000 Whooper Swan and 27 Bewick's Swan.

Super day at Welney @wwtworldwide.bsky.social and good to see water finally on the Washes and lots of waterbirds. Nearly 200 Pintrail, 896 Black-tailed Godwits, 250 Pink-feet, 7 Crane, 2 Peregrine, Whooper Swans into roost. Loads of Wigeon and Teal. Beautiful sky to end the day.

Welney packed with birds today. This presumed Pochard x Ferruginous Duck hybrid from the main obs. A few Cattle Egrets with the sheep on the bank. And Whooper Swans - a real favourite of mine!

Do UK hatched Whooper Swans go to Iceland? These two hatched at WWT Welney last year & today were in Northumberland with other migrating Whoopers. Hopefully, we'll get sightings of them in Iceland 🤞
7 Whooper Swans arrived at Low Newton scrapes this morning from the south, about an hour later they departed north. 2 of the birds had white rings with black letters on the right leg, ABN and ABP. Metal rings on the left leg.

Stunning end to the day at WWT Welney.

Water levels have dropped a lot with paths to Friends Hide now open.

Highlights today included Bewick’s swans, Whooper swans, cranes, cattle egrets, short eared owls and thousands of waders.
