If you made it this far, chances are you'd be interested in Thank You for Joining the Algorithm, an anti-AI spec fic magazine I worked on with Tenebrous Press. @headfullopuddin.bsky.social did the amazing cover art, and all proceeds will benefit orgs fighting for AI regulation in the arts.

If you're a publisher and you think that no one notices or cares that you're using AI-generated art for your covers, I've got some bad news.

This comes from my discussions with artists, publishers, and authors in the indie publishing space, where I work as an editor. The AI topic comes up a lot.

Like you, we're sick of AI encroaching on the arts. And now we're doing something about it. Thank You For Joining the Algorithm is a dark spec fic magazine on the collision point between technology and humanity. All proceeds will benefit orgs fighting to regulate AI in the arts. Join us!

Here's advice from my friend Norm from @drabblecast.bsky.social. Hope this helps!

Recently updated my bio on here (long overdue). If you follow me for the anti-AI takes, you're going to be very interested in Thank You for Joining the Algorithm, a dark spec fic magazine I worked on with @tenebrouspress.bsky.social, which will benefit orgs that fight for AI regulation in the arts.

@moonstruckbooks.bsky.social is blocking anyone who points out the cover for The Rain Artist is AI-generated. The artist they mentioned working on it has "blissfully powered by AI" in their bio, if there was any doubt.

If it's true, why block us? Is it an admission that using AI art is shameful?

A real crowd-pleaser on the Discord ( discord.gg/xEUb3KUH if you're not in there yet), it wouldn't be the Drabblecast without cryptids and Norm Sherman. I hesitate to say "and" there, since Norm is very much like a cryptid himself. Are you weird enough to solve this crossword?

Weirder Than Fiction represents The Tentaculum at its most experimental, and I'm so glad to have @valdevia.art's stunning artwork in our first issue. We weren't able to continue this strange series, but never say never. There's always a chance for future collaborations 👀

It was important to me that we approach weird fiction's history in a thoughtful way, and Bobby Derie's essay on Sonia H. Greene started us on the right foot. This would be the first of many essays from Bobby, who is the only contributor to appear in every issue to date!

In our longest title yet, @cornellwriter.bsky.social's How to Impress a Top Food Critic and Put Your Restaurant on the Galactic Map brings the weird humor the Drabblecast audience craves. You'll laugh out loud reading this — or listening to it on Episode 461:

Forgive me for the lay up here, but Sarah E. Stevens's The Tenant has lived rent free in my head since I first read it. I'm a sucker for class-conscious stories, and the dystopia Sarah depicts is too believable for comfort. Hear it on Episode 462.

A Hymn Upon the Lips of the Dead by @mavlux.bsky.social is classic Drabblecast horror material. Mav delivers on a dynamite weird premise with pulpy execution, and Bo's illustration is the perfect hook. Listen to it on Episode 463 here!

Issue 1 of The Tentaculum will always have a special place in my heart. It was the most difficult issue to make as designer browleeoh.bsky.social and I (but mostly him) were establishing its design principles. It was also the most experimental content-wise. We're proud of what we made, all told.
