When the pressure-driven flow is of similar strength to the buoyant flow, the growth of thermal plumes is diminished, leading to a drop in the heat transport

Despite completely different large-scale flow structures, the boundary drag and heat transport in these vertical channels is remarkably similar to that in horizontal channels
