I interpreted the effective date policy to mean that if you’re submitting sept, that the grants of the last calendar year count, but hopefully we’ll get some clarification.

The SOM lost a $160m NIH vaccine institute grant, employs 40k people, and treats 70k in patients/year, and normally gets +$500m in nih funding. No one is happy about this.

I can’t submit anything until NEXT October it looks like, including resubmissions for things in review. Extra screwed because FOAs got cancelled and po encouraged me to submit resub and to parent bc of cancellations.

Counterpoint: I have friends who have this job post PhD (in very large labs) that loved the writing/thinking aspect of science but not so much the benchwork (that didn’t want to go the faculty or editor route), who find the job very fulfilling.

My F32 as a postdoc went from ND to 4% with just a little prelim data 🤣. Reciting that to myself over and over.
