After 3 days of hair pulling and confusion, I finally figured out why my p2p messaging project wasn't communicating. I tried different networks, NATs, socket configurations, and firewall rules, I found the problem.

My packets were too big.

I don't think I'll ever do a networks project again.

Terminal apps are so unbelievably hard to make cross platform if you want to use anything besides printf... It's hard to believe that after all these years there isn't a great terminal drawing library that's properly cross platform

Finished up some basic volumetric rendering! It's not quite perfect, but for now I'm gonna put it on pause while I integrate SDFs a bit better into the renderer as a whole

My renderer build times were starting to border ~3-4 seconds so I finally got around to making my build script do incremental builds! Everything is done in a single batch/bash script - no tools or dependencies needed outside of gcc!
