I find this worldview totally reasonable, even if it’s not necessarily mine. But to suggest he’s just making that argument in bad faith because he refused to admit Trump is a fascist is just not what’s happening here.

Admit? He doesn’t believe it whatsoever - he overwhelmingly disagrees with that assertion. His theory of politics is completely coherent: capitalism, not liberalism, was the ideological victor of the post-war order, and capital, not fascism, is the prevailing driver of Trumpism.
