Inside those red curtains, Hua Cheng smiled. Id be set "Gege, want to get married?" Xie Lian was struck dumb. "...Huh?" Such an intent gaze, such words; they were in such close quarters with nowhere to run. Colors exploded in Xie Lian's vision, and his mind went completely blank. His entire body was frozen, stiffer than a corpse. Seeing his reaction, Hua Cheng withdrew his arm and let out a snicker. "It's a joke. Did I shock gege?"

Struggling to write lately, and I have a lot of EOY obligations. So I'm shaking things up by writing a fem!Moshang ficlet and hoping it sort of wakes up my writing abilities again. #WIPWednesday
However, Shang Qinghua wasn't at the leaving ceremony, which is … unacceptable. She's Mobei-Jun's closest advisor, and in the absence of a consort, she's … well. She stands in for a consort. To Mobei-Jun, anyway. And a consort should be at all diplomatic functions. This can be dealt with the next day. Perhaps Shang Qinghua will have some sort of explanation — she was busy with paperwork (she is always busy with paperwork) or something like that.

She knew that she was being unreasonable, but the alternative of forgiving Stede seemed too much to bear at that moment. “I cannot believe I was foolish enough to trust you.” “You were not foolish —” “And yet I gave my heart to one who trod it into the ground at the first opportunity — who was only looking for a momentary diversion from her humdrum little life. That was excessively foolish, and I think anyone with sense would agree.”

I started this Murderbot AU ages ago (for AUpril?) but it’s a much bigger fic than originally intended, so I’m still sitting on it, unfinished. #WIPWednesday #OFMD
The surprisingly hard thing was pretending to be an ordinary augmented human. I have modules on human social behavior, as well as decades of observations to count on, and besides, an earlier generation of Bonnets had a package added to my code to make me move more like a human. (I don’t remember the exact incident that caused it — it was wiped from my inorganic memory long ago — but something about it caught in my organic brain bits, and stings.) But there are all sorts of things that just don’t come naturally to me. There’s a lot my crew would overlook for the money, but I couldn’t let them be too tempted by the thought of the reward they might get for returning me to NovaBarbados as a rogue ServUnit. It was working, at least, until Nigel Badminton boarded us.

For #WIPWednesday, a snippet from the The Shabti fic I'm working on - a missing moment between the last two scenes of the book.
But when they made it back home and Hermann came around to the other side of the car to help him out, his eyes cracked open and he came to himself just enough to be reassuring. Hermann wrapped one of Dashiel’s arms around the back of his neck, anchoring it by holding onto its associated hand, and put his own arm around Dashiel’s waist. Not exactly the sort of embrace he preferred, but it was nice to have a reason to hold him so close out in the open.

The one person who was still looking at him intently instead of fervently discussing Ed’s practiced talking points was a man about his own age, not too tall, with curling blond hair escaping from beneath his grey bowler hat. He should have been discussing the practiced talking points. Ed should have been concerned about his apparent immunity to both charm and sensationalism. But instead, he was transfixed — which was itself transfixing. Ed waited a few moments for the rest of the stragglers to move their arses — the blond man himself didn’t move — and then headed over, not even putting some swagger into his stride. “’Lo,” he said as he drew closer, and the man’s face broke into an unexpected and even more transfixing smile.

A snippet of the beginning of my first #OFMD AUpril fic for WIP Wednesday: the Music Man AU.
The sun rose on a new day in Revenge City, the curtain drawing back on the action. “Action,” of course, referring to very little but the ordinary activities of the early morning, such as the singing of little birds and newspaper deliveries by boys on bicycles. It was an idyllic place that belied its much more exciting name. Stede Bonnet awoke not long after.
