Democracies are slow to come to consensus but when they do, they are determined and formidable. What Ukraine has done in an admirable fashion, is to buy time for democracy to do its work. That and weaken Russia considerably.

Niche weapons of the 1990’s-2020’s are not the niche weapons of the 2020’s-2040’s. Expensive Patriots and Iris-T’s will become largely obsolete as the new-niche moves in - UxVs and directed energy weapons with attritable qualities and low cost, infinite magazine depths will come to the fore.

It might not end up joining EU as we know it today, but a hybrid of like-minded countries, including UK, but excluding the likes of Hungary and Slovenia, and with a mechanism to exclude nations that decide to move to a Russian slant. Europe+/EU V2.
