I agree with this in principle, but I'd argue that the fact that he was willing to do Chef delegitimises the threat he poses. We've seen this time and again with figures like Boris Johnson and especially Farage himself where them being "silly" endears them to the less informed.

If anything, the fact that he's willing to do silly stuff like this humanises him and makes him more sympathetic to his target audience. You can disagree of course but everybody in the UK knows he does this stuff and it has not had any sort of detrimental effect on his political career
