i get this question a lot, and fortunately there are many things we can do and people are already doing. it's developing open source software. it's finding and patching security flaws. it's creating alternative infrastructure so we're less dependent on big tech 1/3

and while this ethic was not perfect, it is very rare in hacker circles today bc of deliberate depoliticization that detached it from the rest of the world

AI will monitor your habits to see if you're under 18. if it thinks you are, it'll ask for your ID, otherwise you can't watch age-restricted videos. luckily AI never makes mistakes and YouTube always age restricts videos for good reasons /s

if an iOS "contact suggestion update" feature is how that Atlantic journalist accidentally got added to the infamous Signal group chat, then accidentally inviting an unwanted person to your chat can happen to you too. fortunately the HuffPost article has instructions for how to disable this

It has been dreadful to once again hear discussions in which the only "argument" issued was "it's a complex situation" when trying to face the harsh reality of a 2 million people country being destroyed, blocked and bombed with barely any food or clean water, while one of the last running hospital was bombed three days before [1]. As an heterogeneous group of people that are part of communities that are interested, active or impacted by the struggle for liberation of the Palestinian people, we've felt necessary to start this discussion.

nope! the only way to (somewhat) reliably verify age online is to require a govt ID or biometrics. which would completely destroy online anonymity
