Crime in DC is at a 30-year low. It's not even in top 10 dangerous cities in US. Throughout history, autocrats use a false pretext to impose government control over local law enforcement as a prelude to a more national takeover. That's far more dangerous than the situation he says he is fixing.

People with half a brain will realize this federal takeover of DC is all strongman BS. But it worked during the campaign with those supercuts that suggested all immigrants are coming to murder you, so it's concerning to say the least.

seems like you'd have more leverage BEFORE you voted for the bill, given the close vote. what incentive is there to undo things now? that's how you know this is all BS.
Josh Hawley on voting for Trump's bill after he said he wouldn't vote for Medicaid cuts: "When I said I'm gonna vote for the bill, I said, 'Listen, I like a lot of it. I don't like all of it. I'm gonna try to undo the parts I don't like.'"

Dan Bongino has a nice cry on Fox & Friends: "I gave up everything for this. I mean, my wife is struggling... I stare at these 4 walls all day in DC, you know, by myself, divorced from my wife. Not divorced, but I mean, separated. And it's hard."

Meta's lawsuit will probably Streisand effect this book to the best-sellers list, but the directive likely came from the top. I'm almost done with it, and it's an interesting insider look, but so far not a ton of new info. Mostly just confirms what we probably all think rich tech execs are like.
wired.com WIRED @wired.com · Mar 14
My question to Meta is, why bother to roll out the cannons to blast this tome? The effort to neutralize the book seems quaint and futile. For one thing, NDAs do not cancel out the first amendment, @stevenlevy.bsky.social writes.
