The main obstacle to meaningful brain simulation is the lack of a neuronal model that doesn't require countless biophysical parameters yet detailed enough to match population recordings and connectomics. Cracking this could supplant backprop and transform neuro-inspired AI.

To survive, the brain must predict the future. In a stochastic dynamical world, neurons may do this by grouping trajectories with similar futures—or similar pasts. We turn this intuition into a data-driven prediction algorithm grounded in neurophysiology: arxiv.org/pdf/2510.269...
