@Rusty exactly, i would like to have that "surround sound audio" still stored in the opus file even though i probably won't tell the difference
November 23, 2025 at 5:12 PM
@Rusty 450Kb/s, which is stupidly overkill according to the wiki since i'm just listening on headphones. but i wanted to preserve most of the quality of the flacs
November 23, 2025 at 4:44 PM
@Rusty original is 347.8GB vs compressed 167.9GB, a savings of 179GB (!) at like 48% efficiency

(the reason the files are different are because i haven't synced some recent changes to the library)

also, i lied. i don't have 290 artists. i now have like 310. the albums keep coming

the original flac files are powering my navidrome server, so those aren't lost in any way but it is nice to just be able to have a compressed version that doesn't sacrifice quality

i've successfully transcoded my entire library to opus. i have like 18k songs on my tangara now and they seem to load a bit quicker at a smaller filesize (nearly a third of the original flac) while sounding the exact same
November 23, 2025 at 4:34 PM
@krutonium yes i know i'm impatient
November 23, 2025 at 12:47 AM
@krutonium beets does this already, it's multithreaded and spawns each ffmpeg instance on the core like you say

it's just that i have like 300gb of flacs to go through lmfao
November 23, 2025 at 12:44 AM
@krutonium oh, i'm automating it through beets, i'm just monitoring it lmao

eventually i will copy the directory to my sd card from my nas (i want a backup of the transcoded files just in case)
