I’d encourage you to rep- in, and even advocate a new printing of, Bystanders: Conscience and Complicity During the Holocaust. It strikes me as a critically important book with great relevance for our current context. Thank you for writing it. I wish it were available in e-book form.

Just finished reading Kristen Miller’s novel Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books. It’s witty, clever, and subversive. It’s also a fun read. Miller has an impish, adroit sense of humor with sober purpose. #KristenMiller #LulaDean #Bookbanning

Fr. Alfred Delp, a Jesuit priest, was executed by the Nazi’s on February 2, 1945. His prison letters/meditations are powerful and poignant and have a timely message to faithful people today, especially as we face the challenge and threat of increasing autocracy.

The words below are actually those of Thomas Merton’s Introduction to the Prison Meditations of Alfred Delp, Delp was executed by the Nazis on February 2,1945. His Advent reflections are poignant and profound. Merton’s forward is prescient.

The new Church year begins tomorrow with the first Sunday of Advent. I find Advent rich and profound. The hymns of the season are among my favorites. Sadly (to me) many miss this by jumping straight to Christmas.
