Building a grape arbor based on 1930s blueprints for Old Economy Village. Black locust, cherry and white oak for durability. The top will have bent white oak to hold the vines. Felled and sawed all the wood on my sawmill

Another cool softer wood to try is box elder as it has pretty red streaking from fighting a fungus. The handles on this black cherry cabinet are box elder.

I restored an old Walker Turner wood lathe from the 30s last year. Haven’t tried any silver maple on it. Made silver maple planks for a neighbor’s trailer. Tree was standing dead in the woods, pretty spalting.
