Trying my best where I can help it. Audiobook narrator and JRPG nerd. Plays FFXIV a concerning amount (Miah Aveline on Zalera).
i 100% agree run-by-default should be an option, but i *do* also appreciate being able to RP-walk around for The Atmosphere™, i did that a lot in Silent Hill f in particular actually lol

can't believe you would slander the bladed and/or spiked hand-wheels community like this

it certainly had its intended effect on me, to the point where (because I didn't look anything up at the time) this is the first i've heard it confirmed it was, in fact, fake lmao

such a good video game

My sentient enchanted sword came out to me as transmasc. Talk about Un-She/They-ing your blade! I told him "I don't care how you identify, I just need you to he/it whatever is in front of me!"

"Creature".

I think Guild Wars 2 is like the only other one I've tried (other than WoW which I played for M+ to fuel my difficult MMO content addiction) that hasn't turned me off within like a few hours lol

i wonder how they would feel knowing Tony Hawk would definitely find them extremely obnoxious at best

Audiobook-land is in a similar state. Not to mention the amount of AI slop projects clogging up audition lists...

cramming *such* a heavy topic (and gosh, like 90% of Krile's character development in Dawntrail lmao) into the last 10% of the main expansion storyline was...a choice. But I think after some reflection I can appreciate what the writers were going for a lot more.

Coming back to this thread to say 'thanks' for giving me the opportunity to bounce my brain offa you for a bit -- I think this discussion really helped me come around a bit on the Endless plot thread, or at least helped me address my misgivings with it. I still think, in the end, perhaps

chance to fight back and assert our right to life in defiance of theirs, because of course we would. I just can't help but see the similarities there, and wish it factored in a bit, 'cause that would have been a super interesting quandary for the characters to ponder.

can't help but focus on the parallels between us and the Endless/the Ascians and us. To the Ascians, we were also incomplete simulacra of what they considered life, missing pieces they viewed as fundamental, and our very existence is a contradiction to theirs. We at least were given and took the

Which, if Mega Man Battle Network has taught me anything, being on a computer doesn't necessarily mean they're not alive...

Joke aside, I guess in the end I'm of two minds about the whole thing. I understand - and appreciate! - what they were going for thematically, and yet

and going "well, shit". But to my recollection, that doesn't happen. It's presented as sad, yes, but in a bittersweet, 'it was nice to see our loved ones one last time' kind of way. And I understand that's what they were going for, thematically, there's just some odd bits in there.

Like, I think I would be much more amenable to how this story went if there had been any pushback that had to be confronted. A singular Endless who would very much like to continue existing that we had to look in the eye, someone looking at all the literal children in the amusement park

I guess it's just a matter of different writing teams, and admittedly different contexts. The beings in Ultima Thule are also soulless manifestations of memory born from Meteion's travels, and they got a whole allied tribe questline dedicated to convincing many of them to carry on living lol.

For sure, I understand that bit, but like...that still leaves us with conscious beings who *have* to be consigned to nonexistence for the good of everyone else, and instead of really grappling with that, they skirt around it and treat it as given that we did the right thing. Feels weird.
