A close-up image of two small fossils from beaches in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The Petoskey stone is smooth like a small irregularly shaped rock. The polygonal pattern of the original coral is visible in the stone, but the pattern cannot be felt. The other fossil is an irregularly shaped cylinder with many small indentations. The small indentations are partially filled with stone sediment. A U.S. quarter coin is provide in the image for scale. Both fossils are almost as wide as the coin. These three items are sitting on a desk that has a thin vertical pattern of faux bambo wood.
