4/4 While there are areas of friction – from India-Russia relations to migration and Khalistan issue – both sides are developing a more multi-dimensional relationship. Amid the downturn in India-US relations, Delhi is diversifying exports through the FTA with UK and ongoing talks with EU and Qatar.

3/4 Defence was also an important area of engagement with the visit coinciding with carrier strike groups from both countries conducting joint exercises in the Indian Ocean. Both countries signed a deal for the Indian Army to purchase missiles from the UK as part of their defence industrial roadmap.

2/4 Technology was a key focus area with both leaders’ participating in the world’s largest fintech festival in Mumbai. Starmer drew inspiration from India’s Aadhaar card as the UK plans to introduce its own national digital ID while further operationalizing their Technology Security Initiative.

1/4 PM Starmer’s visit to Mumbai with a large trade mission sought to further operationalize progress made in the bilateral relationship following the conclusion of their trade agreement in May and the ‘Vision 2035’ roadmap that was announced during PM Modi’s visit to the UK in July.
