Software engineer and tech industry hater. Trying to add craftsmanship back to software.
I’d send a snow blower but I have neither a trailer to move it nor an address to send to so prayers will have to do.

Also the only useful thing they’ve given us is knowledge about how much people are interested in delivery services, maybe. Otherwise everything else they do is already a solved problem via other means like your own drivers or per diem work. I could go on but I’d start screaming.

I’m late to this but I feel I need to say something because it’s pisses me off so much. I work on software for fast food places that use these delivery apps. they SO MUCH WORSE than is obvious from the end user perspective. I could rant for 30 minutes about how they fuck the workers on both ends.

I don’t think theres one answer. And algorithms are more of an accelerant than anything. Ultimately part of the issue is that the outside of those echo chambers is, rightly or wrongly, increasingly hostile to them. So the incentives are stacked against getting them out. How can we change that?

I came from Factually for the AI hate. I stayed for shit like this. *chefs kiss*

Let’s here it for another 4 episodes of catharsis related to my industry destroying… well… anything it touches🎉🎉

See there’s your problem. Mine was built in 19_89_ so my kitchen has 3ish circuits to avoid this. /s

I had to learn the hard way that an old apartment had 2 outlets on _opposite ends of the house_ wired together when my 2 acs kicked on at the same time. This was later explained by realizing it was split up per wall when it was retrofitted back in the knob a tube days.
January 16, 2026 at 11:41 PM
This is withouta doubt a lesson people will learn. Because… wait for it…

They already do. _constantly_. Many homes have terrible old wiring and basically everyone I know has learned things like “oh this AC shares a circuit with my microwave. Oops” for every new house. Just a new scale.

I completely forgot about it until now because I watched it years ago. Genuinely amazing and I wish could find it again!

You know this idea kinda hits a little different after being considered an ass (my perception not others words) in some reply somewhere <.< >.>

Not trying my all my engagement about my mistake but I’d like to think I can help a lurker learn from example instead of experience.

as if we needed more reasons to eagerly await the next video.

Fuck it, another thing. i have a terrible problem with my worth being tied directly to being perceived as smart and being told I’m hot shit when i bring up the most basic shit reenforces that tremendously. And i feel like I have nothing to contribute despite this scaring the shit out of me.
January 13, 2026 at 8:15 PM
I’ve picked up on that. I work around a lot of smart people who need what you’d think would be obvious called out to them so I tend to bring anything up “just in case”. But I’ll full chest own that cramming that well meaning idea into a sentence wasn’t bright. I appreciate it. to be clear: fuck ICE.
January 13, 2026 at 6:55 PM
It’s not about people hating or not hating customs enforcement. It’s that not knowing about it can lead people to what a complete abolishing of the entire dept without thinking about how the customs functions are kept around. i felt it was important to call it out. sorry I upset everyone.
January 13, 2026 at 6:46 PM
Don’t come here to try and say “we did this before” as some kind of gotcha. It’s not. The discourse is clearly actually abolishing immigration enforcement. But it doesn’t communicate as well as just ICE. Don’t shit on people when they say “keep this other thing you definitely don’t mean in mind”
January 13, 2026 at 6:38 PM
I’m aware of this, and that both The things this department does predates it significantly. I just also think it’s important to call out that the customs people are just getting dragged along and that it should be mentioned as, imho, may people don’t really know much about customs enforcement.
January 13, 2026 at 6:29 PM
i guess when I said “this function is important and we need It” I meant that it’s impossible to abolish the part that isn’t and was prescriptive about how we need to do that, Huh?
January 13, 2026 at 6:22 PM
All valid options You could even define reform as just being “this agency only handles customs now” and drop everything else. i just think it warrants saying it at least once.
January 13, 2026 at 6:10 PM
Maybe this is me being ”that guy“ but the I in ICE is giving the C a bad rap. And we probably do still need that part of it.
