I was thrilled with my 15 day itinerary which was the ultimate tour of the cultural and scenic sights of Bhutan. I had two options, a tour which included more destinations, or one which was slightly shorter but included a day at the Paro Festival. I chose the longer tour that included some less frequently visited scared Buddhist sites. Serendipity! My trip unexpectedly coincided with the sacred Cham dance festivals at Dzongdrakha Goempa and Paro Dzhong.

Kyoto is not only my (predictably) favourite city in Japan, it is also extremely walkable. There are many beautiful flat day walks along the tree-lined rivers, through historic gardens and parks, and culture rich neighbourhoods. You can also find more adventurous day walks in the adjacent mountains. Serendipity met my arrival in Kyoto in 2023 as it presented 10 glorious days of peak cherry blossom season.
