Faculty;ty have unrealistic expectations for students. I see my job as advocating for students. Do we as librarians have requirements?Yes. Do they sometimes strike faculty as simplistic? Yes. But first year students are not in a potion to changeling scholarly sources, no.

I moved from UT Austin to rural Maryland and was able to design a program that required students to engage with sources. The sources were open to whatever the students chose, but the assessment piece required evidence that supported by evidence.
