On October 31, 1993, CTA opened a new 'L' line from the Loop to Midway-the first completely new 'L' line since the Dan Ryan Line (today's South Side Red Line) opened in 1969. 🍊

We are incredibly thankful to the track workers, ironworkers, signal maintainers, carpenters, linemen, sheet metal workers and utility chauffeurs, who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to make this work a success.

These improvements will support more reliable service and were made possible when CTA paused Loop train service from early Saturday morning until early this morning. Our crews also used the opportunity to make key station upgrades in the area.
