Regenerative agriculture.

Soil health is gut health. Soil health is planet health.

Now in Canada, via Asia.
After ages, revelling in this cracker of a food city story -- by Sana Maher. Amazing reporting and writing.

Reading Sam Anderson in www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

So evocative.

Learning about geography "uncovered and unhidden by soils or grasses or shrubs". Polygons and bogs from melting permafrost.
Opinion: On an island carved by climate extremes, I came to better understand our own polarization
The fractures in our social and political fabrics are, in some ways, not unlike the landscape of Devon Island, in the High Arctic: torn open and deepened by extremity, unhidden and cascading

Discovering Jaclyn Moyer (thank you, Sara, who isn't on here) and her writing about her roots in Punjab, and then came across this, so evocative:

Why do these times, Life Interrupted, Forever changed, resonate with onset of Covid 5 years ago?

I remember the chatter on the parents WhatsApp group in Singapore, end Jan. A parent returning from China had already sounded the alarm. And then the world as we knew it dissolved..... As it is now.

"Japan isn’t lacking in farmland, but the [matcha] shrubs take years to mature, and there aren’t enough tea farmers and stone mills to grind the leaves."

Montreal, March break. Vibrant boulangeries trying to out-do each other on: ancient grain, how many hours before was it ground, and magic in the mouth.

One day: A trip to the farms and mills along St Lawrence river.

@danamilbank.bsky.social 's opinion piece on regenerative agriculture. So evocatively written. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
Regen ag practices reduce input costs by 35%. It's a no-brainer.

The dry Canadian Prairies buried the plow in the 80s, just one practice, so much difference.
Opinion | After 10,000 years, let’s bury the plow
No-till farming reduces need for fertilizers and pesticides, and promotes soil health and biodiversity.

No tariffs on this supply chain beneath our feet.

Fungi hoover a third of fossil fuel emissions from the Earth every year.

Fungi are smart, economical, efficient. Hence proved.
