What a awful take. Imagine applying this same logic to film adaptations of other mediums, where you have to be a fan of the original source material in order to adapt it.

I feel like it’s completely fine to hire a director who doesn’t play video games as long as they’re, you know, actually good at their job and do proper research on the source material with the rest of the writing team.
