Having worked in an incredibly traditional Japanese company, I hope this too. But only a decade ago managers talked openly to me about not supporting or promoting young females because they just marry and get pregnant.

While what you say is not entirely wrong. The "ultra" part is different and the Japanese political landscape is intensely and highly complex. They've been crippled for almost a decade with indecision. It looks like she will have a significant margin to do what the party wants.

The most stark, and idiotic reduction of soft power is Australia. We HAD a willing Pacific islands getting mutual benefit from development, health and tourism in return for security and stability. That ended with right wing PM stupidly and now China are literally knocking in the Pacific.
