What Roe R. Adams III Did I’d like to introduce Roe R. Adams III—pronounced “Row Adams the Third,” a name that might seem somewhat formal or elaborate in Japanese culture. From roughly 1979, at the da...

The reason why I like Dungeon Lords so much is that its design is super anachronic.

Made by one of Wizardry's devs, it's a 3D Action-RPG from 2005 designed like an 80s CRPG. It has random enemy encounters in town, maze-like dungeons, riddles, traps, brutal status effects, unidentified items, etc...

The fun thing is that there's actually A LOT of these mega-obscure independent RPGs in the 90s & early 2000s.

Usually only sickos played them. But then again, these tend to be exactly the people who go on to make cool games lol

That No Clip documentary on Dwarf Fortress was really heart-warming...

... but it now bothers me that I skipped Tom Proudfoot's games in the CRPG Book. I was aware of Natuk and Nahlakh, they have a cult following at the RPG Codex, but I ended up not incluiding them... 💀

damn digital foundry putting halo infinite on the guillotine to make a point about how art and world design and curating what distant LOD models to render can make huge differences in how attractive an open world can look regardless of hardware

Other additions: a search by magazine and a still embryonic page on movie poster artists and VHS/DVD illustrators. Only film posters also used to illustrate video games are included for the moment, but I'll be adding to the artists' pages as I go along.

I've also added a page listing the profiles of female video game developers and artists that I've put online. The list is still short, but it will grow very soon.

I've added a number of sections and galleries to my site over the last few weeks, starting with a gallery on physical game art, with, as usual, the names of the artists (or, failing that, the company responsible for the work).

As a fan of weird cryptic investigation games, gotta recommend that one, spent last time solving it instead of sleeping. Tons of good ideas in it!

On February 10, 2000, one of the visual highlights of the PS1 -Vagrant Story- was released, created by 2D graphic designers who were making the transition to 3D.
(it was also one of the games that more or less accompanied the launch of the PS2, which had very few games when it debuted in March)

I really don't think I've ever seen a technology that is so singularly effective at taking a pre-existing form of rot or brokenness in institutions and lighting it on fire.

We are in so much trouble

Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place
