This is actually why I started building BeeLike - to combine intelligent time blocking with the flexibility that neurodivergent brains need. But that's a story for another post...

What's your experience with time blocking? Does it help you combat decision fatigue, or does it feel too restrictive?

When you eliminate the "what should I do now?" question, you remove a massive cognitive burden. A 2019 study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology found that pre-commitment to specific time windows for tasks significantly reduced decision fatigue and improved performance.

For ADHD brains, it's even more crucial. Studies in the Journal of Attention Disorders show that external structure significantly improves executive function performance. Time blocking essentially creates that external structure.

Think of it as meal prepping, but for your time.

Time blocking works because it aligns with our brain's natural rhythms. Research from the Sleep Research Society shows our cognitive performance follows distinct patterns throughout the day.

By blocking time according to these patterns, we work with our brain's natural flow, not against it.

This is where time blocking comes in, but not the rigid, color-coded, plan-every-minute kind that falls apart the moment something unexpected happens (spoiler: something unexpected always happens).

Some fascinating numbers:

- We make about 35,000 decisions every day (Sahakian & LaBuzetta, 2013)
- It takes 23 minutes to fully regain focus after a distraction (Gloria Mark's research)
- Our brain can only handle about 4 hours of intense focus per day (Ericsson's Peak Performance studies)

What pSEO?

I’m working on beelike.io which is still very early but this is one of the things that I sometimes wonder as well.
Specially for super early companies maintaining rep is pretty important.

No I mean was that like App Store it trust pilot? Because I think you can dispute reviews and ask users to change their ratings. Of course that’s a lot of work too, but if it makes that much difference to your sales, it might be worth it.

Where did you get the bad review?

What I prefer is not the same as what is practical though. 🤣
I’d work on many projects at once for fun but it’s not like any of them will get done. Focusing on one definitely has a chance of finishing it.

But yeah, like you said Rust doesn’t really benefit from it that much.
With Nix though it does.

Mostly TypeScript and Rust. A bit of Python when necessary.

I’m a pretty big fan of Monorepos but it’s often pretty annoying if you want to mix programming languages.
Personally, I use a Nix based monorepo for related projects but do often split them just to keep things tidy.

Exactly! I love minimal design but sometimes not having buttons for basic things in car is annoying. I mean why the hell should one not be able to open a glove box without finding some random item in the menu?

Or use Mastadon and pick your echo chamber 😁

One of the reasons I ask candidates about a problem that our team recently solved. If they can solve the class of problems that we're used to, then they're at least somewhat a fit. Sure, general aptitude is critical, but we often forget about specialisations.

I wonder if that means Windows will now reset your settings without even rebooting. 🤦🏻‍♂️
