The calcite crystal was found near navigational devices in the wreck of a warship sunk in 1592 . Ancient lore claims Vikings used crystals to navigate. This could prove they did indeed exist. Their shape refracts light as a double image. Held correctly, it becomes clear and points east-west.

The concert catastrophe occurred in Frickingen, Germany, before Austrian pianist Stefan Vladar was due to perform on Saturday evening.

Remarkably the piano was still in playable condition once it was righted, and the concert went ahead as planned.

Trichoptera larvae have a unique skill: to build protective covers with materials from their surroundings. Hubert Duprat has taken advantage of this behavior by providing gold and precious stones. The larvae, following their instinct, create living jewels with these materials!

This fresco from Pompeii (50 AD) depicts a high-society woman with gold-threaded hair and earrings, holding a wax tablet and stylus. Traditionally called "Sappho," it is one of the well-preserved and notable artifacts from Pompeii.
Now at the Naples National Archaeological Museum.

Greek Bronze Helmet with a Griffin (350–300 BC), from MagnaGrecia.
The decoration includes a griffin protome on the crest, flanked by wings above the ears. The spring-like coils just inside the wings would have originally held feathers. The brow depicts a diadem and locks of hair surrounding it.
