Many, many warm thanks to Court Harler at Flash the Court for publishing my prose poem "What It Takes, What It Gives." It's had a long journey to here, and I'm so grateful to see it published.

The work that inspired the piece is Lee Krasner's Palingenesis.

It's September 1, which means it's time for a free writing prompt at From the Bookshelf. This month's prompt is inspired by Calvino (and also Aimee Bender!).

Writers: Are you also getting gmail spam about your literary prowess from potential publicity folk? This is the third one in three days.

It's obvious comments about my work have been scoured by some AI bot and poured into this email. No website listed. Just an email.

This is ridiculous. I’ve been hit by some kind of bot village. Hundreds of new bot followers in the past two days. I’ve contacted @support.bsky.team, and I hope there’s a way to resolve this.

I’m both extremely late and on time with this book. What a marvel.

June 24, 2025 at 1:21 AM
It's June, which means I've published this month's installment of From the Bookshelf.

The writing prompt is inspired by "My Love," a short story by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya.

Enjoy!
