Asylum seekers cannot choose where they live. Asylum seekers are housed throughout the UK on a “no choice” basis. In some extreme circumstances this can be challenged. Asylum seekers do not get priority housing. There is no entitlement to council or housing association accommodation. It is not illegal to apply for asylum. Illegal immigrants do not exist. People can be undocumented or take irregular passage but no one is illegal. Claiming asylum is a legal human right. You can only make an asylum application once you enter the UK. You cannot make an application for asylum prior to arrival. There is no visa application process.

8 Straight up facts about immigration we should all know. People seeking asylum are not entitled to any state benefits. They are able to claim asylum support of just under £50 a week. If pregnant there is a one off payment available of £300. The UK is home to 1% of refugees. There are approximately 27 million refugees across the world and the UK takes in some of the lowest numbers in Europe. Just over 109k people claimed asylum in the UK last year. The terms asylum seeker, migrant & refugee have different meanings. Someone seeking asylum is a person who has left their country to gain protection but has not yet been granted refugee status. A refugee is someone who has been granted asylum based on fleeing persecution, conflict or serious human rights violations. Migrants are people who live outside their country of origin but are not seeking asylum.

#AEW missed a trick this week for Forbidden Door in not getting our beloved weatherman Kyle Fletcher to do the morning TV rounds & have ‘This Morning’ resurrect their famous floating weather map just for him! ☀️🌧️❄️

Very frothy pint of sour beer from Edinburgh brewer Vault City. It’s called Last Christmas as it’s inspired by the popular British sweet “wham bar”. Chinese takeaway consisting of egg fried rice, salt & pepper chips, salt & pepper spare ribs, spring rolls, chicken balls & Chinese curry sauce, all served in a pizza box for convenience!
