Some vintage sci-fi/horror for me this evening, watching FIRST MAN INTO SPACE (1959). Clearly influenced by The Quatermass Xperiment, but I wonder if this film in turn helped to shape later stories about UFO-related cattle mutilation and even the Chupacabras?

This has been calling to me for months and I’m finally giving in: going to revisit the Belgariad, and hopefully rediscover some of the magic I found there four decades ago.

Enjoying this very much indeed

Locking the doors, slowing the pace, and settling in to escape this hideous 21st century for a while. Tonight’s film is Demons of the Mind (1972).

The problem with taking books off shelves to do some cleaning is that you rediscover so many you want to reread!

Having a bit of a tidy-up and have just found my old Starblazers! Must have boxed these up decades ago. Tidying may need to wait a while longer now 😁

Glad I went into this with absolutely no idea what to expect and highly recommend you do the same. Be warned, though, the sense of claustrophobia is very real. #horror #scifi

Was clearing out a drawer earlier when I found a souvenir bookmark I lost over 30 years ago. It’s silly, but I’m absolutely delighted to have this back. A little strip of old leather infused with some of the fondest memories of my schooldays.

Even some of my books have been pirated :(

my local Lidl (again) turned out to be mouldy, etc, etc, etc. I’m exhausted yet have achieved precisely nothing apart from just about clinging onto where I was a week ago. You know, I think I finally have an excuse later to polish off this final precious dram I’ve been saving for the right occasion.

Should you give a spoiler alert for episodes of a TV series that aired 55 years ago? I don’t know, but I’m giving one anyway: I’m watching DOOMWATCH and the ending of “Re-entry Forbidden” is one of the bleakest, most haunting things I have ever seen. Marvellous stuff!

Watching the pilot episode of DOOMWATCH. The fashions, technology, and social mores may seem dated today but the themes of environmental and technological danger are at least as relevant now as they were in 1970. (Thanks to @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social for re showing this classic series.)

Just received the coolest package ever. Am in absolute awe of what you’ve achieved here, @janinepipe28.bsky.social !!! #horror

Cost me £84 for a locksmith to free my door key, then the Council chap phoned to say he couldn’t make our appointment after all, and now the bass from next door’s ‘music’ is thundering away again at full, wall-shaking blast ☹️

OTOH, see what treasures I unearthed at a charity shop at lunchtime! 😁

Exactly 😁 As it says on the plaque in my mum’s porch…

Dreaming of a white Christmas…

Excellent. Found another box of my seemingly endless ancient stockpile of obsolete tractor-feed printer paper, so that’s another year of not having to buy gaudy “proper” Christmas wrapping 😏 #minimalist #cheapskate

Going to do my best to enjoy watching Nightmare Alley this evening, despite the thudding bass soundtrack once again being added courtesy of my neighbour 😔

Feels like the stars are right for cracking open this fine-looking tome of eldritch blasphemy. Always thought sanity was overrated anyway.

A book that influenced my life enormously. I would have been around 9 or 10 when I got this, and I’ve since learned more mundane interpretations of many of the experiences described, yet this collection retains the power to chill me as much as - often more than - any fictional horror.

Time to crack open a beer and settle in for a Saturday night horror film

When I had a stab recently at painting again for the first time in decades, I decided I wasn’t even going to attempt fine detail so chose to go for some tiny 10mm-scale WW2 minis. Vague idea of eventually building up a collection representative of the mob my granddad was in in 1944-45.

Lost a lot over the years, although I still have some of my Citadel Miniatures and WH40K minis from the late 80s/early 90s. Was pleased with them at the time but they’re not a patch on the genuine works of art I see people producing these days - those are just insane!
