In the 1990s and 2000s there was a popular magazine in China called Yilin 意林. It's known for making up "foreign moon is rounder" type of stories, like, toilet flush water in Japan is so clean it's drinkable, or Germans left replacement parts in the Qingdao sewage system 100 yrs ago
