I assume this process took a bit of trial and error to get it running smoothly? How long did your initial setup take and how many iterations of rougher versions did you go through?

There's a whole lot of niche and cool science around the MoCo and TuCo 😉 Ralf Mendel's life's work is an inspiring story about a scientist driven by curiosity trying to elucidate the biosynthesis of the weird and elusive Mo cofactor who ends up developing a therapy for a fatal metabolic disorder.

Turns out further that the company's LC-MS has an upper detection limit of 1000 m/z so for any compound with a theoretical MW>1000 g/mol (including salts!) they do record LC-MS data but ignore the results. That is what had happened with this compound.

After a bit of back and forth with the company, turns out they had done QC with the compound 9 years ago but their data didn't match what the academics had recorded on the compound in present times. Neither made sense for what the compound was labelled as.

A friend of mine had a similar experience with a not-to-be-named company selling compound collections. They got a hit from a compound, followed up on it, nothing made sense, ran an LC-MS of the commercial sample they had received, which was not not what it was supposed to be.
